Mrs. Rosalyn Weigle Barton
Aiken--A celebration of life service for Mrs. Rosalyn Weigle Barton age 77 will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday October 5, 2016 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Clint Smith and Rev. Chris Masters officiating. A private Interment was held at Aiken Memorial Park. Mrs. Barton was the beloved wife for 53 years to Mr. Thomas Barton and a daughter of the late Mr. Roscoe Weigle and the late Mrs. Mary Page Weigle. She entered into rest peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family Sunday October 2, 2016. Mrs. Barton was a native and a life long resident of Aiken County and retired in 2000 with 35 years of service with the Aiken County School System. She was a 1960 Graduate of Lander College with a BA in chemistry, and earned her Masters Degree in 1996 at the University of South Carolina in Columbia in chemistry. She taught at Aiken High School, Central Junior High School, Anchorage, Alaska, Aiken Junior High School, and finished up her career at South Aiken High School. Mrs. Barton was a member of the American Chemical Society, Chem Ed Division, CSRA chapter, the Palmetto State Teachers Association, the Pilot Club of Aiken, South Carolina Chemistry Teachers Association and the South Carolina Science Council. In 1989 Mrs. Barton received the Outstanding Chemistry Teacher of the year from the CSRA Chapter of ACS, and in 1990 the Tandy Technology Scholars Outstanding Science Teacher award, in 1990 she received the Leadership and Inspiration Award the SC Junior academy of science award, in 1990 Mrs. Barton received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and was also listed in the Who's Who Among Teachers in 1996 and 1998. Mrs. Barton was a dedicated active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Aiken, SC. Additional survivors include two sons, Timothy (Peggy) Barton, Warrenville, Thomas Ashley (Casey) Barton, North Augusta; one daughter, Amanda (Steve) Smith, Aiken; three brothers, Dr. Samuel Weigle, Panama City, FL, John (Cherie) Weigle, Chapin, and David (Sharon) Weigle, Chapin; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the India Evangelical Education Trust (IEET) c/o Rev.
