Robert “Tarzan” “Bob” Voigt
Aiken, SC—Mr. Robert “Tarzan” “Bob” Voigt, age 87, entered into rest Monday, April 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A private burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Voigt was a native of Long Island, NY, but had made Aiken his home for the past 55 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Mrs. Betty Hughes, and was a son of the late Mr. William Voigt and the late Mrs. Margaret Scott Voigt. Mr. Voigt was a communicant of St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and fought in the Korean War. Mr. Voigt began his 37 year career in Law Enforcement and Public Safety in 1960. He worked in Walterboro and Beaufort before he began his career in Aiken where he worked for Aiken Public Safety as Lieutenant, from 1967, and retired from Public Safety in 1987 as a detective. He later worked at the Aiken County Sheriff’s Department where he worked from 1988-1992 and retired as Captain. Mr. Voigt was a graduate of: FBI National Academy, University of Virginia, University of South Carolina Criminal Justice Program, Southeastern School of Alcohol and Drugs, South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, Northwestern University, Southern Police Institute, Greenville Technical School, Advanced Drug Enforcement DEA School, and Palmetto Center for Alcohol and Drug Abuse. He received a Bachelor of General Studies in 1976 from the University of South Carolina. He was an entrepreneur and business owner, and also worked in real estate. Survivors include two sons Joseph (Jan) Voigt, and Wade Scott Voigt; three daughters Kathy (Bruce) Blackmon, Dee Jones, and Loretta (Gordon) McVey; one daughter-in-law, Tammy Voigt; one sister Arleen Crosby; twelve grandchildren, Justin Voigt, Candice (Leo) Gonzalez, Dana Blackmon, William (Carol) Voigt, Brett Jones, Jenna Jones, Dawn Drasher, Lathyn Voigt, Trevor Voigt, Brent Hess, Brandon McVey, and Brittany (Brad) Griffin, and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Robert Paul “Bobby” Voigt Jr.; one son-in-law Rickey Jones; two brothers, William Voigt and Joseph Voigt; and seven sisters, Loretta Osika, Alyce Ferrara, Frances Miln, Irene Voigt, Eleanor Goolsbey, Margaret Brannon, and Jeanne Norboge.
