Aiken, SC—A celebration of life service for Mr. Phillip Leon McCowan SFC US Army Retired, age 61, will be held 3:00 pm Saturday May 18, 2024, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Scott Hunter officiating. Pallbearers will be SGT. Stephen Brown, CPT, Michael Sherk, SGT. Jay Albright, SPL (P) John P. Jackson, Staff Sergeant William Brooking, SFS Charlie Johnson, and SSG William Brookins. Interment will follow in Graniteville Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army Ceremonial Team. Mr. McCowan entered into rest on Sunday May 12, 2024, at Aiken Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved son of Mrs. Betty Manley Barrett and the late Mr. Taylor McCowan. Mr. McCowan was a native of Arab, AL, but had made the Aiken area his home for most of his life. He loved watching the SciFi and history channel, as well as taking vacations with his family in his earlier years. He loved football and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Mr. McCowan also loved classic rock, with Led Zeppelin being one of his favorite bands. Mr. McCowan was a patriot and had served 20 years in the US Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 2000. He was loved by his family and will be surely missed. Additional survivors include: one son Jon (Audrey) McCowan, Salley; one daughter Lisa (Mike) Fogg, Warrenville; two half brothers Scottie McCowan, Arab, AL, and Jason McCowan, Arab, AL; one sister Ora Barrett, Warrenville; four grandchildren Haley Clark, Valerie Clark, Adreanne McCowan, and Alyssa Fogg; a special friend Debra Hughes, Aiken; and his former spouse and the mother of his children Robin McCowan, Aiken. Mr. McCowan was preceded in death by one brother Steve McCowan.
