Nellie Irene Barfield Bush

Aiken, SC—A celebration of life service for Mrs. Nellie Irene Barfield Bush, age 76, will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Central Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Cook, Joel Danko, Josh Miller, Barry Allen, Jimmy Green, and Melvin Gunter. Mrs. Bush entered into rest Wednesday August 10, 2022, at Edgefield Post Acute. She was a native and life-long resident of Aiken County. Mrs. Bush was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Doug Shumpert and the late Mr. Ted Hatcher and the daughter of the late Mr. Olin Barfield and the late Mrs. Geneva Smith Quattlebaum. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Central Baptist Church. She also attended Kedron Baptist Church. Mrs. Bush worked for the Hickman Division at Graniteville Co. grading cloth. She had worked as a daycare worker for 25 years, and had been a caregiver up until her death. Survivors include: one son Donnie Shumpert, Aiken; one daughter, Cherie (Gary) Cook, Evans, GA; one brother Parnell (Melvis) Barfield, Augusta, GA; one sister Vernell (Haskell) Goodwin, Aiken; a sister-in-law, Susie Barfield, Aiken;  five grandchildren, Cody Shumpert, Brittney Smith, Samantha Coursey, Bryson Cook and Linley Cook. Mrs. Bush was preceded in death by one brother Lance Barfield and one sister Mary Johnson, and her step father Paul Quattlebaum.
