Aiken, SC-- A mass of Christian burial will take place 11:00 am Friday April 25, 2025 at Old St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Park Ave. Aiken, SC with Father Orlando Serrano-Ardila as celebrant. Final prayers and commendations will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Gregg Hwy. Aiken, SC. Marie-Joy entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday April 19, 2025 peacefully at her home at the age of 61. She was the beloved wife of Mr. Robert Cooper and the daughter of the late Mr. Robert Paul Smith and the late Mrs. Grace Bosco Smith. Mrs. Cooper was a born in Astoria, New York and had after living in New Jersey and Charleston, SC, she and her husband moved to Aiken county and has lived here for the past 4 years. She graduated from Sussex Community College in 2015 with an associates degree in Human Services. Mrs. Cooper had a love for helping others and up till her illness she worked in that field. She was an active communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken, SC where she sang in the choir and participated in adoration at St. Mary's on Park Ave. Mrs. Cooper had a real love for music and while in the New York City area she sang in professional musicals and theatrical productions. With keeping up with her Italian heritage she enjoyed cooking all her favorite Italian dishes. Bird watching, playing board games and entertaining herself with game shows were also things she enjoyed doing. Her and her husband were also contestants on the TV show "The Newlywed Game" in 1987 Additional survivors include her son, Mr. Robert H. Cooper, Aiken; one daughter Mrs. Charlotte J. Burlos, and son-in-law, Mr. Andy Burlos, Hanahan, SC; a nephew, Jack Cooper, Kansas; a niece, Carolyn Cooper, Virginia, as well as many other family and friends, and her two cats, Romeo and Juliette. A visitation with the family will held 6-8 pm Thursday April 24, 2025 with the Funeral Liturgy starting at 6:30 pm with Deacon Bob Pierce officiating at COLE FUNERAL HOME 1544 UNIVERSITY PARKWAY (118 BY PASS) AIKEN, SC, 29801. 803-648-7175.
