Aiken, SC—Jim Hopkins, age 80, husband to Patricia Hopkins, departed this life on Wednesday, March 23, 2023 at Augusta University Medical Center with his wife and family at his side. Jim was born November 25, 1942 to the late James and Pauline Hopkins in Anderson County, S.C. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Hopkins. They were parents to one child, Melanie Leonard (Chris) who resides in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Jim is also survived by four stepchildren, Linda Barron (Brian), Steve Mills (Kim), Warren Fulghum (Bonnie), and Brandi Shaw (Ryan). He was predeceased by a stepson, Anthony Mills (Becky). Jim is also survived by three siblings, Linda Mackendree, Ray Hopkins, and Steve Hopkins (Debbie). He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Joe Camp (Joy) and a sister-in-law, Janie Bruce. He is also survived by 11 grand children, James, Thomas, and Helen Leonard, Cody and Hailey Barron, Tucker and Tyler Mills, Dawson Fulghum, Waylon, Hudson, and Tristan Shaw, and Devan Munz. Jim began his banking career 50 years ago with the Farmers and Merchants Bank which later became part of the Bank of America. He retired as a vice president with Bank of America with 33 years of service. He then became a vice president with First Citizens Bank and retired after 3 years. Jim was a graduate of the S.C. Bankers School at the University of SC and was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. Jim was also a 40 year performing Jazz Musician in the Augusta, Aiken, Charleston, and Columbia area with Code 99 Doctors Band at Augusta, The Ken Dukes Band of Aiken, SC, The Harry Kirkland Combo of Aiken, and Bobby Tuba’s Dixieland Band of Aiken, SC. He attended the Grace Covenant Church of God where he was a member of the church orchestra and served as a church trustee. He dearly loved his God, his church, and his family and was always there for them. Jim’s favorite “original statement” was, “When he put God back in his life as he was raised, then God put life back into his life!” Pallbearers will be Chad Hopkins, James Padgett, Rock Slaughter, Carl Pennington, Mike Morris, Ronnie Osbon, John Miano, Dale Bell, and Roger Lindley. The family will receive friends and family one hour before the funeral service at Grace Covenant Church of God. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Edgar Foster and Rev. David Holdman Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. The family will have a visitation one hour prior to the service at Grace Covenant Interment will be conducted in Anderson, S.C. in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. A brief service will be conducted at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Grace Covenant Church of God or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
