Mr. George Duncan Barnes, Sr. Chief Master Sergeant retired
Aiken—A celebration of life service for Mr. George Duncan Barnes, Sr. Chief Master Sergeant retired will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ed Turner Officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Air Force ceremonial team.
Mr. Barns entered into rest Thursday August 11, 2016 at Anchor Rehab, Aiken. He was a native of Pikeville, NC, and had made Aiken County his home for over 50 years. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Frances Thompson Barnes, and a son of the late Mr. Hines Duncan Barnes, and the late Mrs. Mattie Langston Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force retiring with 30 years of service with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He retired with 15 years of service with the South Carolina Department of Corrections as a Correctional/Training officer in the Aiken and Trenton facilities, and an umpiring official with the City of Aiken and Church Leagues for baseball, softball, and basketball games for 40 years. Mr. Barnes was a member of Highland Pines Baptist Church, Aiken, SC.
Survivors include one daughter, Laurie Barnes (Tony) Rollins, Aiken; two sons, Randall Lee (Annemarie) Barnes, Austin, Arkansas, Barry Alan (Florence) Barnes, Maumell, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Barnes was also predeceased by one son, George Duncan Barnes, Jr. and one brother, Sidney Ray Barnes.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the Aiken SPCA Albrecht Center, 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken, SC, 29801.
Pallbearers will be the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
