Mr. Ferdinand “Fred” Peter Spalinski
Aiken—A celebration of life service for Mr. Ferdinand “Fred” Peter Spalinski, age 88 will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nancy Creswell Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC with military honors accorded by the U.S. Navy ceremonial team.
Mr. Spalinski was a native of Trenton, New Jersey and had made Aiken his home in the Cedar Creek Community for the past 9 years having moved from Levittown, PA. Fred was the husband of Mrs. Gloria Marie Lafferty Spalinski of Aiken and a son of the late Mr. Hugo Spalinski and the late Mrs. Anna Barbier Spalinski. Fred had retired in 1993 from General Motors, Fisher Body Plant in Ewing, New Jersey with 43 years of service. He was a member of the United Automobile Workers of America and was employed by the Mercer County Special School District in New Jersey. Fred enjoyed traveling, and dancing as well as the theatre in Aiken, SC at the performing Arts Theatre and the Etheridge Center at University of South Carolina at Aiken. Fred was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Philippine Sea (CV 47). He was of the Catholic faith.
Additional survivors include one son, Robert “Bob” (Linda) Spalinski, Aiken, SC; one daughter, Gail Hargaden, Bensalem, PA; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Fred was predeceased by one brother, Carl Spalding, two sisters, Margaret Perry, and Mary Mehl.
Serving as pallbearers will be the family & local friend Mark Halupa.
