Mr. Ervin Long, Jr.

Jackson—Entered into rest Thursday, September 19, 2013 at University Hospital, Mr. Ervin Long, Jr. age 84, beloved husband of Mrs. Nettie Busby Long. He was  predeceased by his 2nd wife Mrs. Myrtle Peebles Long, and was son of the late Mr. Ervin Long, Sr. and Mrs. Maggie Elizabeth Hudson Long.

A celebration of life service will be held 12:00 noon Monday, September 23, 2013 at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Allen Cantrell officiating.  Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

Mr. Long was a native of McCormick and had lived in Aiken County for past 60 years.  Mr. Long was a mechanic at the Savannah River Plant retiring in 1978 with 28 years of service.  He was also the founder and owner of Long’s Mobile Home Park in 1966 in Beech Island.  Mr. Long was a member of the Hopewell Masonic Lodge # 127 of AF & AM in Jackson. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany having served in the U.S. Army. He followed the Baptist Faith.

Additional survivors include five sons- Ronald (Sandra) Long, Clark Hill, SC, Dennis Long, Beech Island, Robert S. (Jo Ellen) Scott, Summerville, E. Lewis (Susan) Scott, Augusta, GA, Lee V. (Gail) Scott, Jackson; two daughters-Lydia (Ronnie) Yates, Anderson, Jean Robbins, Jackson; nineteen grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren. Mr. Long was predeceased by two sons- Charles C. Peebles, Harry E. Peebles, six brothers, three sisters.

Pallbearers will be: Phillip Dobson, Stephen Boatwright, John L. Thorne, James Yates, Charles Yates, Lee Scott, Lewis Scott, and Robert Scott.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to one’s favorite charity.

The family would like to express a deep gratitude of thanks to University Hospital 10 west staff for all of their compassionate care they gave their father during his illness.
