Mr. Edward Alkema

Entered into rest Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.  Mr. Edward Alkema, age 80, beloved father and grandfather and son of the late Peter Alkema and Josephine Postuma Alkema. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Patricia McCormick Alkema.  He was predeceased by his brothers, John Alkema, Pete Alkema, Billy Alkema, and his sister, Josephine Perry.  He is survived by three sisters, Diane Labellarte, Sadie Novitsky Garofelo, Sophie Malinowski.

A celebration of life service will take place at Cole Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 6 pm on Monday, January 3, 2022. Wesley Kinard will be officiating and a visitation with the family will be held directly following the service.

Mr. Alkema was born in Paterson, NJ, and made Aiken his home for the past 49 years.  He was an avid fan of the Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves.  He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.  In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be make to the college fund for Jaiden Davis and Ariana Mealing.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Denise (Milt) Boswell, Beaufort, SC; Tracy Norton, Aiken: and one son, Eddie (Lorie) Alkema, Aiken; six grandchildren, Miranda Mealing, Addison Boswell, Ashlyn (Carson) Leshin, Cam (Angelina) Alkema, Ally (Daniel) Hilton, Lauren (Mason) Rodriguez; six great grandchildren, Jaiden Davis, Ariana Mealing, Mason Leshin, Archer Alkema, Giovanni Alkema, and Wells Hilton. The service will livestreamed on the Cole Funeral Home Facebook page.  Due to the Covid situation mask are suggested and social distancing will be observed.
