Windsor, SC—A celebration of life service for Mr. Donald “Don” Ray Slade U.S. Navy Retired, age 80, will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday September 6, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Windsor with Rev.  Will Vaughn and Rev. Paul Locke officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Slade entered into rest at Thursday September 1, 2022 in Williston Health and Rehab.  He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Jeanette Davis Slade, Windsor, and the son of the late Mr. John A. Slade and the late Mrs. Marie Hansen Slade. Mr. Slade was a native of Bluefield, WV and had made the Aiken area his home since 1954. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Ridge Spring. Mr. Slade was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy serving a total of 40 years, with 26 years as a Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Slade also served as Chief of Staff for 14 years at Navel Park in Buffalo, NY. Additional survivors include: one son Carl (Carmen) Slade, Severn, MD; one daughter Elizabeth Soller, Lake Mary, FL; three step sons Bruce Wilson, Clearwater, Chris Wilson, Windsor, and Charles (Ann) Wilson, Ridge Spring; two step daughters Sharon Jackson, Edgefield, and Angela Wilson, Clearwater; one brother Cecil Slade, Aiken; three sisters Peggie Eargle, Aiken, Lois Timmons, Lexington, and Dixie Mix, Austin, TX; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Mr. Slade was preceded in death by one son Ed Slade, one brother Gene Slade, and two sister Patsy Eargle and Lorena Bledsoe.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of  Windsor Building Fund, 539 Middleton Drive, Windsor, SC, 29856.  A visitation will take place one hour prior to service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Wilson, Charles Wilson, Michael Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Allen Wilson, and Matthew Jackson. The family will like to express and gratitude of thanks to the staff at Williston Health and Rehab for their compassionate care they gave to Mr. Slade.
