Johnston, SC--A celebration of life service for Mrs. Anne Elizabeth “Booba” Cotten will be held Saturday July 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall for Jehovah’s Witnesses, Edgefield, SC with Brother Th. Mrs. Cotten entered into rest at the age of 87 on July 4, 2019.  She was born March 23, 1932 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania to the late Alfred and Leona Hoggard. Mrs. Cotten was the youngest girl of five children. She was preceded in death by: one sister Marie McNeil; three brothers George Hoggard, Jessie Hoggard, and Herman Hoggard; and one son-in-law Kenneth Simmons. Mrs. Cotten was educated in the Pennsylvania public school system, where at an early age she developed a love for language and reading. She was always seen with a book or a crossword puzzle in hand. She later worked as a librarian for both the Public Library of Philadelphia and in the Philadelphia public school system. She dedicated her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 9, 1976. One of her Bible teachers said that, “Everyone needs a Bible study like Anne.” She truly searched God’s word and loved to study it. Mrs. Cotten served as a regular pioneer for many years, was a zealous Kingdom proclaimer, and had a large spiritual family. She eventually relocated to Sumter, South Carolina in 1983, and then relocated again to Edgefield County in 2010.  Mrs. Cotten  leaves to cherish her memory: two children, G. Kevin (Karen) Turner, Perry Hall, MD and Naomi Simmons, Johnston, SC; five grandchildren, Simone (George) Byrd, Johnston, SC, Samantha Simmons, Johnston, SC, Sabrina Simmons, Johnston, SC, Karene (Jeremy) Proffitt, Media, PA, and Kidron Turner, Owings Mill, MD; five great grandchildren, Austin G. Byrd, Johnston, SC, Joshua Proffitt, Media, PA, Eleazar Proffitt, Media, PA, Nathaniel Proffitt, Media, PA, and Ebenezer Proffitt, Media, PA; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cotten had many friends both old and young and will be missed by all. We look forward to seeing “Booba” soon, know it is just around the corner the day when she will be back, and once again welcoming all to come sit and visit. Mrs. Cotten always said, “I am determined not to let nothing separate me from Jehovah, Romans 8:38-39.” A visitation with the family will take place following the service in the foyer of the Kingdom Hall for Jehovah’s Witnesses, Edgefield.
